Infrared Forage Analysis:

  • A wide range of tests are offered by infrared and/or chemistry, depending on the type of feed. The most common are: Dry matter, crude protein, ADF, ADF-N, NDF, NDF-N, Ca, P, Mg, K, energy, lignin, soluble protein, ash. Contact customer service by email or by phone at 1-800-BON-LAIT for more information.

Each feed sample is emptied into a container and mixed to ensure homogeneity. A sub-sample is then dried and ground. Some of the ground material is packed into a specially designed sample holder with a glass bottom to be inserted into the Foss reader. The instrument then scans the sample with infrared light and determines the composition. The results are finally transmitted to a computer that generates the report that will be sent to the client.

The accuracy of our results is demonstrated several times a year by our participation to the proficiency tests organized by the National Forage Testing Association.
