Close to 80% of Quebec dairy producers benefit from Valacta services. Every month, or upon request, the client is visited by a dairy production technician and, a few days later, by an advisor. Both are equiped with a portable computer and printer, and are linked via internet to the Valacta central computer and to industry partners.

Valacta technicians perform milking supervision, milk samples collection and data entry with the AGRI-LACTA CONTACT software. Upon request, they perform electronic registration of animals and activation of permanent ID tags (ATQ). They print the management reports selected by the client (with ANALYSES software) and perform a basic review of the herd status in order to detect trends and potential problems. If needed, they direct the client toward the appropriate industry resource. Lastly, they upload the herd's data to the central computer, send the samples to the lab via courrier and transmit their observations to the advisor.

Milk samples are routinely analyzed at the lab within 24 hours of their collection at the farm. Results are immediately forwarded to the central computer, where the VISION2000 program extracts the reports selected by the producer, including local, provincial or national comparative statistics (optional on a monthly basis). Reports are available via internet to clients, their Valacta advisor, plus any industry advisor authorized by the client, on average within 48 hours after test date.

Valacta advisors visit their clients in the following days, with up-to-date data on their computer, VISION2000 reports with current laboratory results, including optionak milk urea nitrogen and feed analyses. Also, thanks to the FPLQ extranet, they can access the client's milk delivery data for the last 24 months, including milk quality performance. If needed, the advisor adjusts the herd's feeding program with RATION'L, based on the current test results, performs milk production planning with PLANI-LACTA and reviews herd management with the client (using the ANALYSES+ program and other tools): production, reproduction, heifer growth (PROM-S), milk quality, comfort and sanitation at the barn, general herd management.
