Analysis of your dairy farm's cleaning water to ensure safety

Water used to clean surfaces in contact with milk can be an important source of bacteria. This is why Canadian dairy producers must comply with proAction program requirements regarding water safety on the dairy farm and keep a log of their results. This water must be analyzed at least once a year, but more frequent analyses could be requested by provincial authorities.

The quality of water available on the farm along with its physico-chemical properties can also impact your cows' health and productivity. It is wise to test the water directly from the supply source and from the waterer at least once a year.

All water samples must be taken on Mondays, Tuesdays or Wednesdays, refrigerated as soon as possible and shipped the same day so that they can be received at the laboratory within 24 hours. Our sampling kit includes a cooler and ice packs. You also need to ensure that samples are protected from freezing at all times

Water is analyzed by an external laboratory certified by the Ministère du Développement durable, Environnement et Lutte contre les changements climatiques du Québec.
