The average monthly performances for herds enrolled on milk recording have been compiled for the month of April 2019. The improvement in the performance of these herds has never been more impressive than in this first part of 2019.

Performance has reached new heights

  • Somatic cell count (SCC) below 200 000 cells/ml;
  • Average daily milk production per cow exceeds 31 kg;
  • Average daily component yields at 1.32 kg fat and 1.08 kg protein per cow;
  • Feed efficiency at 1.29 kg of milk per kg of dry matter intake;
  • Calving interval at 415 days;
  • Cull rate increased from 32% at the same time last year to 37% in April 2019. There are many who would say this isn’t bad news when it means the profitable cows are staying in the barn and filling the quota.

Monthly SCC ≤ 200 000 in April 2019: a record high for the past nine years
